Birthday Card
At first glance you cannot help but be reminded of the later work of Jackson Pollock-the free flowing lines and the chaos they display. Once you examine the work more closely you notice homage to the work of Korean artist Jiha Moon and her use of culture references. One could argue that this young artist was influenced by the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, as seen by the covering of the stickers in the upper left hand corner. They are covered by markers, thus drawing attention to them. The large “Elmo” sticker in the middle of the pieces cries out we are all Elmo. This is truly a master work from the new artist known simply as Good Looking Baby JJ. Age 3, although he will tell you he’s six and a half.
