"Rickrolling is an Internet (joke) involving the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song "Never Gonna Give You Up . The (joke)is a bait and switch a person provides a Web link they claim is relevant to the topic at hand, but the link actually takes the user to the Astley video.
The URL can be masked or obfuscated in some manner so that the user cannot determine the true source of the link without clicking (and thus satisfying their curiosity). When a person clicks on the link given and is led to the web page he/she is said to have been "Rickrolled". By extension, it can also mean playing the song loudly in public in order to be disruptive."

Kids today think they are so cool with their phones and Internet jokes. I'm here to tell you that they didn't start this fire. Back in 1987 when Rick Astley's video was being played on MTV every 15 minutes (yes, they played music on music television back then) we had a friend named Phil that looked enough like Rick Astley that we all would say things like, "you look like Rick Astley".
We didn't have cell phones or the Internet yet so we spent a lot of time walking around at the mall. We'd be in a crowd of people and one of us would shout "hey look! It's Rick Astley". Phil would then dance like a fool and sing the first line of that song and then later punch you in the arm. That's an old school Rickroll.
