crop circle
A crop circle is a sizable pattern created by the flattening of a crop such as wheat, barley, rye, maize, or rapeseed. Crop circles are also referred to as crop formations, because they are not always circular in shape. The first crop circles reports started appearing in the 1970s in South England, and spread to other countries after the 1991 confession of two hoaxers who claimed authorship. The documented cases have substantially increased from the 1970s to current times. Twenty-six countries reported approximately ten thousand crop circles in the last third of the 20th century. Ninety percent of those were located in southern England.

Things I learned about at Hooters-Orienteering
Orienteeringis a family of sports that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, and normally moving at speed. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points. Originally a training exercise in land navigation for military officers, orienteering has developed many variations. The oldest and the most popular is foot orienteering. Foot orienteering serves as a point of departure for discussion of all other variations, but basically any sport that involves racing against a clock and requires navigation using a map is a type of orienteering.

Bachelorette Party Cake

Before you go judging me about this photo I want you to keep a few things in mind. This cake was made by a woman, for a woman, to celebrate the most special day in her life. What disturbs me that most about this Bachelorette party cake is the attention to detail. Ladies copy and paste this photo now, because I’m probably going to feel bad about posting it and I’ll remove it soon.

The Serenity Prayer
During my brother’s recent hospitalization my family was visited by many people. A few of those folks were volunteer chaplains. We found them to offer little in the form of updates on my brother’s condition, but they all seemed sincere in their concern for our family, so we allowed them to sit with us and share whatever it was they felt like sharing. One of the gentlemen told us stories about high school football and that his favorite Bible verse was The Serenity Prayer. My Christian school teaching sister shot me a look as we both continued listening to the volunteer. We both knew that prayer does not appear in the good book. It was written by Reinhold Niebuhr or was it? http://www.yalealumnimagazine.com/issues/2008_07/serenity.html
